Defensive end Kyle Baublitz from York (Pa.) York Central is one of the state’s top class of 2010 prospects.  He has attracted attention from coaches from over 30 colleges and the list is growing.

Not surprisingly, Penn State is on that list.

The 6-foot-4 and 245-pound Baublitz has been a varsity starter at both middle linebacker and tight end since his freshman season.  He made 166 tackles and caught 11 passes for 167 yards during his junior season.

“When recruiters come in, the question is where he will play in college,” York Central assistant coach Bill Cook said.  “It will probably be defensive end or tight end.”

Some college coaches don’t need to see any more.  Baublitz already has scholarship offers from West Virginia, Pitt, Clemson, Boston College and Stanford.

“He’s not real flashy, but he is consistently around the ball,” Cook said.  “He’s a big kid who can run.  He’s a quiet leader.”

This season, Baublitz attended two Penn State games as well as games at Michigan, Notre Dame, Virginia and Pitt.

“I went to the Penn State-Indiana game and the Penn State-Michigan game,” Baublitz said.  “It was really neat.  The atmosphere was awesome.  The fans were great.  I talked to Larry Johnson.  Now coach (Mike) McQueary is recruiting me.”

The Nittany Lions have some time to continue evaluating Baublitz.  He is not planning to select a college in the near future.

“I’m pretty open,” Baublitz said.  “I’ve been to all the schools that have offered except Stanford.  I want to see some others.  I’ll visit Stanford, Cal, UCLA and Illinois this summer.”
