Defensive end Kyle Baublitz, a varsity starter at both middle linebacker and tight end since his freshman year at York (Pa.) Central, is closing in on two dozen scholarship offers.  Baylor and Temple are among the latest schools to join a list that includes Penn State and now stands at 19, according Baublitz.

Baublitz attend the Blue-White Spring Game as well as spring practices at Pitt, Virginia and Maryland.

“It was pretty crazy at Penn State,” Baublitz said.  “I got there at 9:30 in the morning and people were tailgating.  There were 76,000 people at the game.”

Baublitz is currently playing volleyball so there has not been much time to visit schools.  He plans to do more of that during the summer.

“I plan to make a Midwest trip and visit Michigan State, Michigan, Illinois and Northwestern,” Baublitz said.

Baublitz said he has no favorites at this point, but would like to narrow his list down after his Midwest trip.

“I’m thinking about making my commitment over the summer,” Baublitz said.  “I would like to decide before the (football) season.”

The 6-foot-4 and 245-pound Baublitz, who will likely play defensive end in college, made 166 tackles including three sacks during his junior season.  He also had close to 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

In addition to Penn State, Baublitz’ list of scholarship offers includes Rutgers, Pitt, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Illinois, West Virginia, Boston College, Virginia, Clemson, Florida State, Stanford, Wisconsin and Maryland.

Penn State assistant coach Larry Johnson has stopped at Central this spring to check on Baublitz.
