It's official: Floyd will visit

Philadelphia (Pa.) George Washington defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd says he is considering seven schools.  He has selected the five he plans to see on official visits.

Floyd is looking at Penn State, Miami, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, USC and Boston College.

“Florida, South Carolina, USC, Penn State and North Carolina, those are the ones I’ve set up for official visits,” Floyd said.  “The first one is Sept. 20, but I don’t remember who that is.”

Floyd said he did not have any of the dates for the trips in front of him, but has previously said his visit to South Carolina will be the weekend of Nov. 14 when the Gamecocks take on Florida.

The 6-foot-3 and 309-pound ESPNU 150 defensive lineman had over 30 scholarship offers before narrowing his list down.

In August, Floyd mentioned Florida and South Carolina as two schools that were high on his list.  The Nittany Lions have joined the party.

When asked if the Gators and Gamecocks remain atop his list, Floyd said, “Yes, and I’d say Penn State, too.”

Floyd is the lone in-state star Joe Paterno still hopes to add to his 2010 recruiting class.

George Washington opened their 2009 season this past weekend.  Washington went down to defeat but Floyd had a good game.  He made seven tackles and had three sacks.  Floyd also batted down a pass.

Kurelic’s Comment:  There has been speculation elsewhere that the Nittany Lions don’t have much of a shot at Floyd.  I have said I think Penn State has as good a shot as anyone and wouldn’t be surprised if Floyd’s decision comes down to Penn State or Florida.  I still feel that way.
