Jones: 'I'm still thinking about Penn State'

Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes running back Marcus Lattimore, the No. 10 prospect on the ESPNU 150, is scheduled to make an official visit to Penn State the weekend of Nov. 7 when the Nittany Lions play Ohio State.

Lattimore’s teammate, Nick Jones, is planning to make a trip to Penn State that weekend as well, though he does not have an official visit set at this time.

“I’m still thinking about Penn State,” Jones said.  “I plan on going to the Penn State-Ohio State game.”

Jones visited Penn State with Lattimore at the end of July.  However, recruiting has been on the back burner for Jones in recent weeks.

“I haven’t been thinking about recruiting,” Jones said.  “I’ve just been thinking about getting back on the field.”

Jones missed the first half of his senior season with a knee injury.  He saw his first game action two weekends ago when Byrnes took on Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas.

In two games, Jones has played wide receiver, running back and a little quarterback.  He is being recruited as an ‘athlete’ who will likely play on offense in college, most likely as a slot receiver.

Jones has not yet scheduled any official visits.

“I’ve talked to Coach (Bill) Kenney about an official visit,” Jones said.  “I’m also (looking at) South Carolina, Auburn, and I’m talking to Michigan.  I really don’t have a favorite right now.”

Jones said he was watched the Nittany Lions play on TV a couple times this season, including the Penn State-Iowa game.

“They look good,” Jones said.  “They came out strong against Iowa.  They way it started out I thought they were going to win.”

Win is what Jones, Lattimore and the rest of the Byrnes team did this past weekend.  After going down to defeat for the first time this season against Aquinas two weekends ago, Byrnes got back on the winning side with a 49-6 victory over Spartanburg.

Kurelic’s Comment:  Jones was on the bubble in terms of a Penn State scholarship offer at the beginning of the football season.  With him being out most of the season so far, and with the Nittany Lions doing so well on the recruiting front, I would be very surprised if Jones were to get an offer from Penn State.
