NN 2010 Hot List: October

We are back with our 2010 Penn State Hot List: October edition.

Much has happened since we last ran our list five weeks ago and we certainly have some changes.  Since then, the Nittany Lions landed commitments from three prospects on the list, linebacker Khairi Fortt, defensive end Dominique Easley and offensive lineman Khamrone Kolb.  Fortt was No. 1 on our list back on Sept. 20 while Easley was No. 5 and Kolb No. 6.

On the other hand, two prospects from our list are headed elsewhere.  Offensive lineman Robby Havenstein has committed to Wisconsin and linebacker Travis Williams has committed to Miami.  Once the Nittany Lions landed Kolb it made it very unlikely Havenstein would end up in this Penn State class, and I never thought Williams would end up at Penn State.  And once Fortt committed, that pretty much spelled the end of the even slight chance he would be.

Today NittanyNetwork.com has a “Super Seven” Hot List of prospects still in play.  Our list is based on a number of factors including how likely it is the prospect ends up at Penn State and the Nittany Lions’ needs as they fill out this recruiting class.

1. RB Marcus Lattimore
Schools Considering:
Penn State, South Carolina, Oregon, North Carolina, Auburn and Florida State
Kurelic’s Take:  Lattimore will make his official visit to Penn State the weekend of Nov. 7 when the Nittany Lions play Ohio State.  Picking a favorite at this point is virtually impossible.
Previous Ranking:  2

2. DL Sharrif Floyd
Schools Considering:
Penn State, South Carolina, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio State and USC
Kurelic’s Take:  Floyd, who is on an official visit to Ohio State this weekend, says he won’t make an official visit to Penn State.  However, he plans to take in one of the remaining Nittany Lions’ home games and he is definitely still considering Penn State.
Previous Ranking:  3

3. DL Mike Thornton
Schools Considering:
Penn State, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Michigan and Miami
Kurelic’s Take:  Thornton has scheduled an official visit to Penn State the weekend of Nov. 7.  That is the only official visit he has set, but nothing should be read into PSU or any other school being in the lead at this point.
Previous Ranking:  7

4. DL James Carmon
Schools Considering:
Penn State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Alabama
Kurelic’s Take:  Carmon has scheduled an official visit to Penn State for the weekend of Nov. 7.  He continues to say he has no favorite.
Previous Ranking:  8

5. RB Storm Johnson
Schools Considering:
Penn State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Florida State, Oregon and a couple others
Kurelic’s Take:  Johnson has made an official visit to Michigan State.  Who else he visits remains to be seen as does where he eventually ends up.
Previous Ranking:  12

6. WR Nick Jones
Schools Considering:
Penn State, South Carolina, Auburn, Michigan and others
Kurelic’s Take: Jones would like to make an official visit to Penn State the weekend of Nov. 7.  However, the Nittany Lions have not asked him to at this point.
Previous Ranking:  13

7. WR Kenny Stills
Schools Considering:
Penn State, Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, UCLA and others
Kurelic’s Take:  Stills had a visit set to Penn State the weekend of Nov. 7, but has not spoken to the Nittany Lions in weeks and says he assumes the visit is now off.
Previous Ranking:  9
