Carmon's change of plans

In mid-October, Gulf Coast Community College (Miss.) defensive tackle James Carmon said he would likely make an official visit to Penn State the weekend of Nov. 7 when the Nittany Lions host Ohio State.

However, that is not going to happen.

“We’re 10-1 now,” Carmon said.  “We play on Saturday for the Mississippi juco state championship.”

The 6-foot-7 and 360-pound Carmon has 30 tackles and four sacks in nine games.  Carmon missed two games with a slight injury to his right knee, but is looking forward to the championship game this weekend.

As far as visiting Penn State goes, Carmon said, “I’m not going to be able to do that this weekend.  But most likely I’ll reschedule it.  I’m not sure when.”

Carmon has made one official visit to this point.  He visited Ole Miss when the Rebels played Alabama.  Carmon was also going to visit Mississippi State the weekend of Oct. 24 when the Bulldogs played Florida, but did not because he had his own game.

“I’ll visit Mississippi State Thanksgiving weekend,” Carmon said.

While Carmon is still looking at the Bulldogs, Ole Miss is no longer in the mix.

“I’m looking at Mississippi State, Penn State, South Florida and Florida State,” Carmon said.  “That’s it right now.”

Carmon graduated from Baltimore (Md.) City College, the same high school as Penn State wide receiver commitment Adrian Coxson.  Carmon is in his second year at Gulf Coast CC.  He will have three years to play two when he gets to his new school.

Kurelic’s Comment:  While I would not rule out Carmon, if the Nittany Lions end up with another defensive lineman in this class, I think it will be Sharrif Floyd from Philadelphia (Pa.) George Washington.
