Catching up with Chestnut

Junior defensive back/quarterback Terrell Chestnut (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) was supposed to attend the Penn State-Ohio State game with teammate Maika Polamalu.  Polamalu made it, but Chestnut did not.

“I was going to go with Maika, but he had to leave before I got home,” Chestnut said.  “So I watched it on TV.”

When asked for his thoughts on the game, Chestnut said, “Ohio State is good.  They just played a good game.  Penn State could have won.  But Ohio State is really good.”

However, the ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect certainly remains interested in the Nittany Lions.

“Yeah, I’m looking at Penn State,” he said.  “Coach (Mike) McQueary came to one of our games.”

Chestnut has a half dozen scholarship offers, including one from Penn State.

“I have about six offers,” Chestnut said.  “Pitt, Rutgers, Penn State, Villanova, West Virginia and Connecticut have offered.  I have written offers from Pitt, Rutgers and West Virginia.”

The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound Chestnut, like Polamalu, is one of the top juniors in the Keystone State.  He has been a varsity starter since his freshman year when he played cornerback and safety.

Chestnut played quarterback and safety his sophomore season.  He completed 43 of 79 passes for 935 yards and eight touchdowns.  Chestnut also carried the ball 163 times for 1,226 yards and 21 touchdowns.  On defense Chestnut made 90 tackles and intercepted two passes.

Chestnut is again playing quarterback and safety this season.  He and Polamalu have led Pottsgrove to a 10-0 record with a playoff date tonight against Upper Moreland.

Kurelic’s Comment:  Chestnut’s scholarship offer list will almost certainly continue to grow.  He says he does not have a favorite right now and is keeping an open mind to everyone showing interest.
