Floyd: Penn State is out

PHILADELPHIA — Penn State is officially off Sharrif Floyd's list.

The 6-foot-4, 311-pound defensive tackle — No. 6 at his position in the class of 2010 according to ESPN Scouts Inc. — said minutes after his final high school football game Saturday he was still considering Florida, Ohio State, South Carolina and another school or two.

But not Penn State.

"I just don't see myself there," Floyd said.

When pressed for what led to his decision, Floyd shrugged his shoulders. When asked about what those schools had that Penn State was lacking, he paused — and then said he wasn't sure.

Floyd was a bit beside himself after walking out of Charles Martin Memorial Stadium at Northeast High School. His team, George Washington High, had just seen its season end, 31-20, in a game that wasn't nearly as close as the score indicated.

"I was just thinking how I'm not going to play another high school football game," he said. "I will always cherish everything about high school."

The ESPNU 150 prospect's snub puts the Lions in an interesting position. Without Floyd, Penn State still has three remaining scholarships.

It could choose to make an offer to another prospect (such as four-star defensive end Ethan Farmer or offensive guard Anthony Marsiglia) or bank the scholarships for next season.

I never did care much for him, regardless of what the scouts have said. He's not the brightest bulb on the tree from what I've heard, so I'm glad PSU is out for him. We'll get higher quality talent w/ the 3 scholarships we have left - people who athletic, want to be at PSU and smart to boot. We don't need him. I hope he goes to Ohio State where the academic standards are lower (and the graduation rate too), so we can beat is *** next year.
