Back to Manheim Central

The Nittany Lions landed one of the top overall prospects in the state of Pennsylvania in Under Armour All-American defensive end/linebacker Dakota Royer (Manheim, Pa./Central).

Royer graduated early and is already in school at Penn State.

The Penn State staff has their eye on Royer’s former high school teammate, offensive lineman Rob LaPorte, for their 2011 recruiting class.

“Penn State asked for my film,” LaPorte said.  “Maryland asked for my film.  Temple invited me to their camp.”

The 6-foot-4 and 325-pound LaPorte was a starter at left guard during his junior season.  He played a key role as Central won 15 straight games before losing in the state championship.

Recruiting is just starting to pick up for LaPorte and he is starting to think about football at the next level.

“I want to go to a good program,” LaPorte said.  “I want to go to some place like Penn State.  Penn State would be nice.”

LaPorte has never been to Penn State, but plans to change that, perhaps in the near future.

“I’ll get out there,” LaPorte said.  “I was going to go to Penn State a couple weeks ago to hang out with Dakota, but I couldn’t make it.”

LaPorte is also a good student, sporting a 3.4 GPA.

Kurelic’s Comment:  I don’t expect LaPorte to receive a scholarship offer from Penn State in the near future, but he is someone they will take a good look at and could eventually offer.
