State College High’s Alex Kenney is one of Pennsylvania’s top five class of 2010 prospects and remains one of the Nittany Lions’ top targets.

The 6-foot and 190-pound Kenney has over a half-dozen scholarship offers.

“Pitt just offered the other day,” Kenney said.

Penn State, Stanford, Virginia, Illinois, Boston College and Buffalo had already offered.

Living in State College, Kenney is of course no stranger to Penn State football.  He attended several Penn State games this past season.  Kenney also stopped by the school a few days ago.

“I went over there and met with the coaches on Friday,” Kenney said.  “I talked to coach (Mike) McQueary and coach (Joe) Paterno.  It went really well.  They’re nice guys and great coaches.  They said I could come over whenever I want.”

The next time Kenney visits Penn State will probably be when some of the players work out for NFL scouts.

“They’re having a pro day,” Kenney said.  “I’m not sure of the exact date, but I’ll definitely go to it.”

Paterno and McQueary see Kenney as an offensive player at the next level.

“They talk about slot receiver and punt and kickoff returner,” Kenney said.

Kenney, whose father is a Penn State professor, is certainly interested in the Nittany Lions. But he’s not ready to make a commitment at this point.

“When I find the right school I won’t wait around (to commit),” Kenney said.  “Right now, I’m just looking around.”

Kenney played wide receiver, running back and cornerback during his junior season.  Kenney caught 16 passes for 240 yards and rushed for 670 yards.  He averaged 12.9 yards per carry.

On defense, Kenney made 19 solo tackles and had two assists.  He intercepted two passes and returned one for a touchdown.

Kenney averaged 17.6 yards per punt return and 40.7 yards per kickoff return.  He scored seven times on the ground, four times through the air and twice on returns.
