Ever wonder what it’s like to be a standout high school football prospect? Ever wonder what it’s like to have the college football teams you watched on T.V. growing up offer you a chance to play for them? Wonder no more. From now until National Signing Day on Feb. 3, 2010, Nittany Network will routinely check in with State College High wide receiver and Nittany Lions target Alex Kenney to get a feel for the recruiting process through the eyes of a top prospect.

Wide receiver Alex Kenney is a huge name on the Penn State recruiting scene. Kenney is as close to a “must get” as any prospect being recruited this year.

He is one of the top receivers in Big Ten country, one of the first prospects to land a scholarship offer from the Nittany Lions, has grown up in the shadows of Beaver Stadium, and his father is a Penn State professor.

Enough said.

The 6-foot and 190-pound Kenney caught 16 passes for 240 yards during his junior season.  He rushed for 670 yards and averaged 12.9 yards per carry.  Kenney averaged 40.7 yards per kickoff return and 17.6 per punt return.

Kenney’s updated scholarship offer list includes Penn State, Pitt, Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Virginia, North Carolina State, Boston College and Kentucky.

Kenney spoke with Bill Kurelic Wednesday evening.

“The past week I received two new (scholarship) offers.  Northwestern and Purdue offered.  Both were a surprise.  I had no idea they were going to offer.  I have around 14 offers now.

That was kind of the biggest news the past week.

I just went to the Pitt spring game last Saturday.  I had a good time there.  I felt comfortable there.  Playing in the Steelers’ stadium was pretty cool.

I haven’t talked to Penn State in the past week.  I’m definitely still interested in them, but I’m not close to deciding.

We haven’t had any track meets this week.  We have one (today).  I run the 100-meters and the 200-meters.  My best times are 10.59 seconds and 21.60.”
