Nittany Network was on hand in State College on Saturday covering the NIKE Football Training Camp.  At the camp, Stamford (Conn.) King running back Silas Redd, in a video interview, indicated he was on the verge of announcing his college choice and sounded like he was headed for Penn State.

It did not take long for the announcement to come as Redd gave the Penn State staff the good news Sunday morning he has committed to the Nittany Lions.

“I just feel at home at Penn State,” Redd said.  “They have been my leader for a long time.”

Redd is one of the top running back prospects on the East Coast.  The 5-foot-10 and 195-pounder has been a varsity starter since the beginning of his sophomore season.

Redd rushed for 1,261 yards his first year as a starter.  He scored 18 times.

During his junior season Redd gained 1,356 yards and scored 15 times.  He averaged 11.3 yards per carry.  Redd also played safety and intercepted two passes in leading King to an 8-1 record.

Redd had scholarship offers from Penn State, Boston College, Stanford, Virginia, Rutgers, Oregon, Syracuse and Connecticut before selecting the Nittany Lions.

Redd has been to Penn State’s summer football camp three years in a row.  He attended the Penn State-Michigan State game this past season, visited Penn State in late March and attended the Nittany Lions’ Spring Game last weekend.

Redd’s commitment comes on the heels on Baltimore (Md.) City College wide receiver Adrian Coxson’s commitment this past weekend, and gives Joe Paterno four verbal commitments.  Linebacker Mike Hull from Canonsburg (Pa.) Canon-McMillan and quarterback P.J. Jones from McKees Rocks (Pa.) Sto-Rox have also committed to the Nittany Lions.

Redd, Jones and Coxson were all in State College on Saturday participating in the NIKE Football Training Camp.
