Bolden sets record straight

Rumors were flying Monday that ESPNU 150 Watch List quarterback Robert Bolden from Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s had committed to Michigan State.  Nittany Network quickly got in touch with Bolden’s father, who said his son had not committed to the Spartans - or anyone else for that matter.

Robert Bolden echoed that sentiment Monday night.

“I haven’t committed to anyone,” Bolden said.  “I heard about those rumors, but I don’t know where they came from.  They aren’t true.”

Bolden has 23 scholarship offers including Penn State, Michigan State, Oregon, Michigan, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Nebraska and Northwestern.  However, it is three schools that stand out.

“It’s mainly Penn State, Michigan State and Oregon,” Bolden said.  “And I’ve been talking to West Virginia, but I haven’t done much as far as getting down there.”

Bolden was in East Lansing on Friday for the Spartans’ camp.

“It went pretty good,” Bolden said.  “I saw a lot of guys I’ve heard about over the Internet.”

The 6-foot-4 and 195-pound Bolden, who has been St. Mary’s quarterback since the beginning of his sophomore season, said he might attend a day of camp sometime this month at Penn State, though nothing is scheduled at this point.

The Nittany Lions have a commitment for quarterback P.J. Jones from McKees Rocks (Pa.) Sto-Rox, but that doesn’t seem to worry Bolden.  He remains interested in Penn State.

“I talk to them a lot,” Bolden said.  “I talk to Coach Vanderlinden and Coach (Jay) Paterno a lot.”

When asked which of three schools he has at the top of his list, Bolden said, “I don’t have a favorite.”

Kurelic’s Comment:  I will be surprised if Bolden’s decision does not come down to Penn State or Michigan State.  While Bolden does not seem concerned about P.J. Jones, I think it is in the Spartans’ favor they don’t have a commitment from a quarterback at this point.
