Kenney Recruiting Diary: Entry Seven

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a standout high school football prospect? Ever wonder what it’s like to have the college football teams you watched on T.V. growing up offer you a chance to play for them? Wonder no more.  From now until National Signing Day on Feb. 3, 2010, Nittany Network will routinely check in with State College High wide receiver and Nittany Lions target Alex Kenney to get a feel for the recruiting process through the eyes of a top prospect.

State College High wide receiver Alex Kenney is as close to a “must get” as anyone the Nittany Lions are currently recruiting.  He is one of the top receivers in Big Ten country, was one of the first prospects to land a scholarship offer from Penn State, has grown up in the shadows of Beaver Stadium, and his father is a Penn State professor.

Enough said.

Kenney’s scholarship offer list includes Penn State, Pitt, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Virginia, North Carolina State, Boston College, Temple and Kentucky, among others.

Kenney has agreed to do a weekly recruiting diary with Nittany Network. As usual, we begin with what has happened on the recruiting front for Kenney over the past week.

On the recruiting front in the past week ...

My latest offer is from Wake Forest.  That makes 19 offers.  I’ll probably narrow it down around the middle of the summer.

On other visits he has planned for the summer ...

I go to Penn State’s senior camp in late June.  I think it is June 28.  I’m visiting Wake Forest and North Carolina in mid-July, I think.  I’m going to visit Virginia next week, but I don’t know the exact day.

On what else he has planned for the summer ...

Other than football I’ll be hanging out with my friends and lifting.

On the end of the school year ...

We just had our last day.  The year went by pretty quickly.  I’m looking forward to the summer now, and then going back for my last year of high school.

On his junior track season ...

I ran the 100- and 200-meters.  My best 100 time was 10.60 seconds.  My best in the 200 was 21.50 seconds.  I was second in the state in the 100-meters as a junior.  In college I would like to do both (football and track) if the coaches would allow it and it wouldn’t interfere with spring (football) practice.

On what is going on in regards to Penn State ...

There isn’t really anything new.  I’m still considering them.  We had a 7-on-7 thing at Penn State last weekend.  Coach (Mike) McQueary happened to be there.  He wants me and my mom to get on campus and visit with the academic people.
