Jones: 'I'll be back for camp'

Nittany Network posted the bad news on our message board on Tuesday that quarterback P.J. Jones from McKees Rocks (Pa.) Sto-Rox had chipped a bone in his left ankle.

The Penn State commitment was playing in a pick-up basketball game when he sustained the injury.  Jones has a cast on his foot which he will have on for six weeks.

“I’ll be fine for the season,” Jones said.  “I’ll be back for camp.”

Jones is the No. 6 prospect on my Pennsylvania top 10, and a potential replacement for current PSU quarterback Daryll Clark.

The 6-foot-3 and 225-pound Jones completed 62-percent of his passes for 2,020 yards during his junior season.  Jones connected for 24 touchdowns with just seven interceptions.

Jones passed for 1,886 yards and 24 touchdowns during his sophomore season.  He threw just three interceptions that season and also rushed for over 500 yards.

Jones had a dozen-plus scholarship offers before committing to the Nittany Lions in mid-January.  Three months later, he opened his recruitment back up to some extent before reaffirming his selection of Penn State near the end of April.

Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s quarterback Robert Bolden is expected to announce his college choice on Friday and speculation is rampant Bolden will select the Nittany Lions.

If Bolden is headed to State College, Jones said it will not cause him to look elsewhere.

“Not at all,” Jones said.  “That would be good for him if he does.”

It would also be good for the Nittany Lions.

Kurelic’s Comment:  If Bolden opts for Penn State it would give Joe Paterno a super duo, and between Jones and Bolden, two outstanding candidates to eventually lead the Nittany Lion offense.
