Ever wonder what it’s like to be a standout high school football prospect? Ever wonder what it’s like to have the college football teams you watched on T.V. growing up offer you a chance to play for them? Wonder no more.  From now until National Signing Day on Feb. 3, 2010, Nittany Network will routinely check in with State College High wide receiver and Nittany Lions target Alex Kenney to get a feel for the recruiting process through the eyes of a top prospect.

State College High wide receiver Alex Kenney is as close to a “must get” as anyone the Nittany Lions are currently recruiting.  He is one of the top receivers in Big Ten country, was one of the first prospects to land a scholarship offer from Penn State, has grown up in the shadows of Beaver Stadium, and his father is a Penn State professor.

Enough said.

Kenney’s scholarship offer list includes Penn State, Pitt, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Virginia, North Carolina State, Boston College, Temple and Kentucky, among others.

Kenney has agreed to do a weekly recruiting diary with Nittany Network. As usual, we begin with what has happened on the recruiting front for Kenney over the past week.

On the recruiting front over the past week or so ...

Nothing has really gone down.  I have a meeting with the Penn State coaches on Tuesday.  I think it is in the afternoon.  I think it will be with Coach (Mike) McQueary and whoever else.

On who he is going to the meeting with ...

It will be my mom and dad and me.

On whether he might commit to Penn State on Tuesday ...

That’s up in the air.  I don’t really know right now.

On the status of his scholarship offers right now ...

I’d say I have around 20.  I didn’t get any new ones last week.

On what is going on right now in regards to football ...

We have lifting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and practice on Wednesday nights.  It’s going well.  We should be pretty good this year.  We have a few other [Division I] prospects besides me, so we should be good.

On what else he is doing to get ready for the football season ...

On the off days, occasionally me and some friends go to the track and work on our speed.

On what else he is doing this summer ...

I hang out with my friends.  I play video games, stuff like that.

On his favorite TV show ...

Avatar.  It’s a cartoon show.

On his family besides his mom and dad ...

I have an older brother, Matt Kenney.  He will be a senior at Cornell.  He’s a wide receiver there.  He works in the rotation some.  I have a younger sister, Lauren.  She is 16.  She runs track and plays ice hockey and soccer.  I think she will play either ice hockey or soccer in college.
