Defensive end C.J. Olaniyan from Warren (Mich.) Mott hopes to trim his list of two dozen scholarship offers by the end of August.

“By the end of the month I’ll narrow it down,” Olaniyan said.  “I’ll probably narrow it down to five.”

Olaniyan has visited Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Ohio State, Iowa and Kentucky.  All but the Buckeyes have offered a scholarship.  Among the other schools Olaniyan has offers from are Wisconsin, Virginia Tech and Maryland.

Olaniyan speaks very highly of the Nittany Lions.

“They’re looking pretty good,” Olaniyan said.  “I like their team.  I talked to Coach (Larry) Johnson and Coach (Ron) Vanderlinden.  We talk about their program and how they could use me.”

The 6-foot-4 and 230-pound Olaniyan is one of the top prospects in the state of Michigan.  He has been a varsity starter at defensive end and as a flex receiver since the beginning of his sophomore season.

Olaniyan made 85 tackles including nine sacks last season.  He had 14 tackles for loss.  On the other side of the ball Olaniyan caught 33 passes and scored three times.

Olaniyan visited Penn State on the weekend of March 22.  It remains to be seen if he’ll return for an official visit.  Olaniyan has not scheduled any trips yet, and said he is not certain if he will take official visits before selecting a college.

“I don’t know right now,” Olaniyan said.  “I’m not sure when I will pick a college.”

Kurelic’s Comment:  While Olaniyan certainly could end up at Michigan or Michigan State, he has never shown any strong inclination towards staying in-state.  I think the Nittany Lions have as good a shot as anyone.
