There have been some rumblings that Frederick (Md.) Linganore offensive lineman Robby Havenstein is no longer seriously considering Penn State. However, as Lee Corso likes to say, “Not so fast my friends.”
“I’m still looking at Penn State,” Havenstein said. “I have about five schools I’m still looking at: Maryland, Penn State, Virginia, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.”
Havenstein plans to make an official visit to Wisconsin the weekend of Sept. 5 and said he is talking to Maryland about an official visit in December.
“I don’t know if I’ll take all five official visits,” Havenstein said. “I might go back to Penn State, I don’t really need to, but I might. I’ve been there a number of times.”
Havenstein attended three Penn State games last season as a guest of the Nittany Lions’ coaching staff. He was on hand as Penn State defeated Oregon State, Michigan and Michigan State. Havenstein also attended the Nike Football Training Camp at Penn State on May 2.
“I talked to Coach (Larry) Johnson a couple weeks ago,” Havenstein said. “He told me their situation. He said they only have a certain number of offensive line spots left. They aren’t planning to offer anymore offensive linemen, but they still have spots open.”
The 6-foot-7 and 335-pound Havenstein was a starter at right tackle his sophomore season and moved to left tackle his junior season. He helped lead Linganore to a 13-0 record before a loss in the state championship game last fall.
Havenstein has 15 scholarship offers including Penn State, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, West Virginia, Stanford and Kansas State.
Kurelic’s Comment: In addition to Havenstein, the Nittany Lions are also still recruiting Havenstein’s Linganore teammate, running back/linebacker Zach Zwinak. Virginia Tech and Penn State are possible destinations for Zwinak.
