Storm brewing for State College?

At one time, Loganville, Ga., running back Storm Johnson appeared headed to Louisiana State.  However, that is not necessarily the case any longer.  In fact, it sounds like there is a pretty good chance it is not going to happen.

“I was pretty set on LSU,” Johnson said.  “But I’ve opened my recruiting back up.  I just felt like I needed to see which school is right for me.  If it is meant to be, then it will be.”

When asked if he is still considering LSU, Johnson said, “It depends on if they want to recruit me.”

Johnson said he has not recently spoken with any LSU coaches.  However, he has spoken to coaches from some other schools including Penn State, and Johnson is again mentioning the Nittany Lions.

“There are about seven schools,” Johnson said.  “Florida State, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson, West Virginia and maybe Kentucky.

“I talked to Penn State a couple weeks ago.  I like them.  Their head coach is fantastic.  They are one of the best in the Big Ten.”

The 6-foot-1 and 217-pound Johnson, a Under Armour All-American and the No. 6 rated running back, rushed for 1,300 yards and 21 touchdowns during his junior season.  Loganville won 15 straight games and a state championship.

Johnson will attend the Miami at Florida State game on Labor Day.  He said he is also considering attending some other games, though he would not rule out a commitment to the Seminoles.

“You could say Florida State is on top right now,” he said.  “I’m going to graduate in January so I have to make my decision early.”

Johnson and his teammates have their first game on Friday against one of their big rivals, Athens (Ga.) Clarke Central.

Kurelic’s Comment:  The Nittany Lions have a commitment from running back Silas Redd and have targeted Marcus Lattimore as the other running back in this class.  However, if Johnson does not commit to Florida State, the Nittany Lions will likely continue to stay in touch.
