Defensive end C.J. Olaniyan (Warren, Mich./Mott) is close to naming his top choices. Olaniyan has 26 scholarship offers including, one from Penn State. Within the next week we should have a better idea where the Nittany Lions stand.
“I haven’t done that yet,” Olaniyan said. “But by the end of the month at the latest, I should have a top five or six.”
Olaniyan has scholarship offers from Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Kentucky, among others. He has visited Penn State, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, Kentucky and Cincinnati.
He plans to make at least one more trip to State College.
“I was there (March 22),” Olaniyan said. “I saw a workout there at the practice facility. I talked to Coach (Joe) Paterno while I was out there.
“I’ll go to some (college) games. I’ll probably go to Notre Dame, Penn State and Michigan State.”
Several weeks ago, Olaniyan said the Nittany Lions were “looking pretty good.” It will be surprising if Penn State is not among his top five or six when he makes that announcement later this week.
The 6-foot-4 and 230-pound Olaniyan is one of the top prospects in the state of Michigan. He has been a varsity starter at defensive end and as a flex receiver since the beginning of his sophomore season.
Olaniyan made 85 tackles including nine sacks last season. He had 14 tackles for loss. On the other side of the ball, Olaniyan caught 33 passes and scored three times.
Kurelic’s Comment: The Nittany Lions are still in pursuit of several defensive linemen including Olaniyan, Sharrif Floyd and Dominique Easley. Paterno has a legitimate shot at all of them, though predicting where any of the three are going to end up is almost impossible at this point.
