Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes running back Marcus Lattimore, the No. 10 prospect on the ESPNU 150, is set to make an official visit to Penn State the weekend of Oct. 10 when the Nittany Lions play Eastern Illinois.

Lattimore may be accompanied by Byrnes teammate Nick Jones.

“I think me and Marcus are going to Penn State Oct. 10,” Jones said.  “I would probably make it an official visit.”

Jones, who visited Penn State with Lattimore at the end of July, hopes to soon begin scheduling his official visits.

“I’m looking at South Carolina, Auburn, Michigan and Penn State,” Jones said.  “All of them except Penn State have offered (a scholarship).”

Jones plans to add one more school to his list.

“I plan to take all five official visits,” he said.  “North Carolina will probably be my other school.  I am hearing they are real close to offering.”

In addition to official visits, Jones plans to make a number of unofficial visits.

“I’ll probably go to the South Carolina against Ole Miss game and the South Carolina against Florida game,” he said. “I’ll get to Auburn and North Carolina games, too.”

The 5-foot-9 and 170-pound Jones played wide receiver, running back and quarterback during his junior season.  He caught 64 passes for 816 yards.  Jones had 13 touchdowns.

In their first game of the 2009 season, Lattimore and Jones led Byrnes to a 43-7 win over Central Gwinnett this past weekend.  Lattimore rushed for 133 yards and Jones played wide receiver and running back.

Jones is being recruited by the Nittany Lions as a slot receiver.

“I really don’t have any favorites right now,” Jones said.  “Everything is still wide open.”

Kurelic’s Comment:  If the Nittany Lions offer a scholarship I tend to think Penn State goes to the top of Jones’ list.  Jones and Lattimore talk about going to the same college, but it is not a definite that happens.  Lattimore has narrowed his choices down to Penn State, South Carolina, Auburn, North Carolina and Oregon.
