Penn State hot on Chestnut

Pottstown (Pa.) Pottsgrove running back and defensive back Maika Polamalu, one of the Keystone State’s top juniors, attended the Penn State-Iowa game.  The Nittany Lions also invited Polamalu’s teammate, Terrell Chestnut.

“I was supposed to go, but I wasn’t able to,” Chestnut said.  “But I’m going to the Ohio State and Minnesota games.”

The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound Chestnut, like Polamalu, is one of the state’s top juniors.  He has been a varsity starter since his freshman year, when he played cornerback and safety.

Chestnut – an ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect - played quarterback and safety his sophomore season.  He completed 43 of 79 passes for 935 yards and eight touchdowns.  Chestnut also carried the ball 163 times for 1,226 yards and 21 touchdowns.  On defense, Chestnut made 90 tackles and intercepted two passes.

“I’m being recruited as an ‘athlete,’” Chestnut said.  “Some say defensive back or wide receiver.  I would play anywhere.  I just want to get on the field.”

The Penn State coaching staff would like to see Chestnut on the field in blue and white.

“Maika told me Penn State offered him at the Penn State-Iowa game and he said they were offering me, too,” Chestnut said.  “Rutgers has offered.  West Virginia, Pitt and Villanova have offered.  Pitt, Rutgers and West Virginia have sent written offers.”

When asked to name the schools he is interested in, Chestnut said, “I’m just keeping my options open.  I like Rutgers, Pitt, Penn State, but I’m keeping things open.”

Kurelic’s Comment:  Chestnut said he does not have a favorite and is not close to deciding.  But in the end I would not be surprised if his decision comes down to one of the three schools he mentioned.
