The Penn State coaching staff has been hosting some outstanding juniors on unofficial visits at the Nittany Lions’ home games.  They also have hosted a number of fine sophomores.

York (Pa.) Central quarterback Brandon Baker is one of those sophomores.  Baker attended the Penn State-Minnesota game on Saturday.

The 6-foot-1 and 185-pound Baker was on the Central varsity his freshman season playing on special teams and some wide receiver.  By the end of the season he was starting at wide receiver.

Baker moved to quarterback at the beginning of his sophomore season and has started all seven Central games.  He has helped Central – also the school of senior and current Lions commit Kyle Baublitz - win five of seven games, throwing for five touchdowns and running for two.

“I was at the Penn State-Minnesota game,” Baker said.  “It was an awesome atmosphere.  The game was good.  Penn State played pretty good.”

Baker was excited to meet a number of the Penn State coaches.

“I met Larry Johnson,” he said.  “I met Bill Kenney and Mike McQueary.  I like the coaches.”

In addition to Penn State, Baker said he is also drawing early interest from Pitt.

“I have my options wide open,” he said.

Baker also plays on the Central basketball and volleyball teams, and has a 3.0-plus GPA.

Kurelic’s Comment:  Nittany Network will continue our periodic looks at top sophomores like Baker who are already on Penn State’s radar screen.
