Coxson: 'I'm still committed'

Baltimore (Md.) City College wide receiver Adrian Coxson committed to the Nittany Lions on April 30, five days after attending Penn State’s spring game and two days before making the trip back to State College for the Nike Football Training Camp.

However, throughout the fall there has been speculation Coxson is considering other schools.  Though he has continued to say he remains committed to the Nittany Lions, he also has done little to put Penn State fans completely at ease.

On Monday night, Coxson again said he remains a Penn State commitment.

“I’m still committed,” Coxson said.  “I talk to Coach (Larry) Johnson every week.  I was up there for the (Penn State vs.) Iowa game.  I’ll probably be back in the next couple weeks.  I’ll probably be back for the Ohio State game.”

The 6-foot-1 and 195-pound Coxson, who is the No. 102 prospect on the ESPNU 150,  has been a varsity starter at wide receiver since his freshman season and a starter at cornerback his sophomore and junior seasons.

Coxson caught 34 passes for 821 yards during his junior season.  He averaged 24 yards per catch and had eight touchdowns.  Coxson intercepted three passes.  He averaged 23 yards per punt return with two touchdowns, and 20 yards per kickoff return with a touchdown.

It is no wonder Florida, Georgia, Maryland, West Virginia and Pitt continue recruiting Coxson.  He is not sure if he will make official visits to any of them, but hasn’t ruled it out.

“I’ll probably make my official visit to Penn State after the season,” Coxson said.  “I’m not sure if I’ll take any other official visits.”

If Coxson decides to make official visits to any schools other than Penn State, he says he will be doing so to make sure he has made the right choice in selecting the Blue and White.

Before committing to the Nittany Lions, Coxson had approximately a dozen scholarship offers including Florida, Pitt, Michigan, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Maryland, Boston College and Connecticut.  Oklahoma and Georgia have also now offered Coxson.

Kurelic’s Comment:  Whenever a committed prospect talks about the possibility of visiting other schools, it has to be of at least a little concern.  In this case, that is how I would categorize it, a little concern.  In the end, I feel confident Coxson signs with the Nittany Lions.
