ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect Landon Turner wants to verbal sometime in the early fall — and, right now, chances are he won't be committing to Penn State.
The 6-foot-5, 285-pound junior previously counted the Nittany Lions in his top 10. He attended two camps in Happy Valley, his father lives in State College, and he wanted to visit the campus in the near future.
But, Thursday night, he acknowledged he still hasn't received any communication from the Lions, including any letters.
"I don't know where I'm standing with Penn State," the tackle out of Harrisonburg (Va.) High said. "I was interested in them because of their camp, but they still haven't sent me anything at this point."
Turner is a hot commodity, so he'll have no trouble finding other interested colleges. He already boasts eight offers including Virginia Tech, North Carolina, West Virginia, Stanford, Maryland, Virginia and East Carolina. And he's also looking closer at Michigan State, Ohio State and Georgia.
It was believed the Lions would come around later in the recruiting process for the lineman. After all, Harrisonburg coach Tim Sarver said he was made in the same mold as John Wade, a 12-year NFL veteran.
Turner, who dropped his weight from 305 pounds for wrestling season, said "it's not a huge deal" that Penn State isn't after him. He plans on attending Virginia Tech's upcoming Junior Day, and he expects to reel in some more letters and offers in the next few months.
"Not a lot has changed yet," he said. "I haven't been taking a lot of trips. With wrestling, I really haven't had a lot of time."
