Polamalu waiting on written offer

With National Signing Day having come and gone, it is full speed ahead on 2011 recruiting for the Penn State coaching staff.  One of their targets is Pottstown (Pa.) Pottsgrove running back and defensive back Maika Polamalu and he is high on their list.

The 6-foot-1 and 205-pound Polamalu was a varsity starter at cornerback his freshman year and running back his sophomore season.  He played the same two positions during his junior season.

“I’ll play outside linebacker or safety in college,” Polamalu said.

Polamalu has scholarship offers from Penn State, Temple and Villanova.

“They are all verbal offers,” Polamalu said.

Polamalu attended the Penn State-Illinois and the Penn State-Ohio State games this past season as well as the Army at Temple game and the Notre Dame at Pitt game.

Polamalu went to a Junior Day at South Carolina and plans to go to one at Pitt in a couple weeks.

“If Penn State has a Junior Day I’ll probably go to that,” Polamalu said.

Penn State assistant Mike McQueary stopped at Polamalu’s school in January.

Polamalu’s father, Alatoa, played for Penn State and graduated in 1988.  His mother also graduated from Penn State.  Cousin Troy Polamalu played for USC and is currently a star defensive back for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Polamalu intercepted a pass his freshman season.  He rushed for 1,854 yards and had 247 receiving yards his sophomore season with 21 touchdowns.  During his junior season Polamalu helped his team win 14 straight games before losing in the state quarter finals.  Polamalu rushed for 1,500 yards and scored 20 times.  He made 60 tackles, had five sacks and recovered three fumbles.

Kurelic’s Comment:  Polamula said he does not have a favorite right now, but it is hard not to like the Nittany Lions’s chances.
